Codecs and Post Workflow

The MAVO Edge supports the following codecs: ProRes 4444XQ, ProRes 4444, ProRes 422HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422 Proxy.

ProRes 4444 XQ- the highest-quality ProRes Codec available on the MAVO Edge 8K. This format preserves dynamic ranges several times greater than the dynamic range of Rec. 709 imagery. This codec is best suited for heavy VFX work and intense color-grading plans.

ProRes 4444– an extremely high-quality version of ProRes on the MAVO Edge 8K. This codec features full-resolution, mastering-quality 4:4:4:4 RGBA color, and visual fidelity that is perceptually indistinguishable from the original material. This codec is best suited for VFX and composite work in post production.

ProRes 422 HQ– a higher-data-rate version of ProRes 422 that preserves visual quality at the same high level as ProRes 4444 but for full-width 4:2:2 image sources. This codec is best suited for moderate color-grading plans.

ProRes 422– a high-quality compressed codec offering almost all the benefits of ProRes 422 HQ, but at 66 percent of the data rate for even better multistream, real-time editing performance. This codec is best suited for livestream broadcast and light color-grading work.

ProRes 422 LT–  a more compressed codec than ProRes 422, with roughly 70 percent of the data rate and 30 percent smaller file sizes. This codec is best suited for light color grade work and situations where storage capacity is limited.

ProRes 422 Proxy– the most compressed codec available on the MAVO Edge 8K, intended for use in offline workflows that require low data rates but full-resolution video. This codec is not intended to be used in the final post-production conform.
